Our city has two names ! Secunderabad = Hyderabad

The names: HYDERABAD and SECUNDERABAD are used interchangeably because they are "twin cities" which seemlessly and mutually flank each other. In fact, Secunderabad is a neighbourhood of Hyderabad, it is known more commonly by the name of its larger sister Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD is the Capital City of the State of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, in India.

In view of its central location, HYDERABAD /SECUNDERABAD is considered to be the gateway to South India, or to North India, depending on which way you look at it. This 400 year old metropolis offers many things to many people. It is rich in art, culture and handicrafts. The city is famous for its pearls markets.

The city is known for its friendly people. In fact, we locals call our city HY DEAR ABAD !

This city, is also the seat of many reputed R & D Centres and institutions of higher learning. The city is so active in the field of Information Technology, that it has come to be known as Cyberabad.

HYDERABAD / SECUNDERABAD is located at 17.39 deg. N latitude and 78.47 deg. E longitude, almost in the middle of India. We are at an altitude of about 400 metres above mean sea level.

HYDERABAD / SECUNDERABAD is said to be the fifth largest city of India (after Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta and Chennai). We are a city of about 9 million people (2016 estimates) !

Beware ! There is another Hyderabad in the Sindh province of Pakistan. To avoid any confusion, our Hyderabad is also called Hyderabad (Deccan), sometimes. There is also a city with a deceptively similar spelling (and pronunciation) called Sikandrabad, in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. My city is Secunderabad , in the state of Telengana.

HYDERABAD / SECUNDERABAD is connected by air / rail to: DELHI (1500 km) BOMBAY / MUMBAI (710 km) MADRAS / CHENNAI (674 km) CALCUTTA / KOLKATTA (1800 km) PUNE (545 km) BANGALORE / BENGALURU (573 km)	If you are coming by plane : Our nearest airport is: HYDERABAD, which is well connected to all major cities of India. A few international flights also touch Hyderabad directly. This Hyderabad International airport (aka RGIA) is about 40 km from our home. If you are travelling alone : you can take the shuttle bus service from the airport (RGIA) to the city terminal (Secunderabad terminal) and then take an autorickshaw (three wheeler) or a taxi from the city terminal (Secunderabad terminal) to Bowepally. Follow these driving instructions. We are about 5 km from the city teminal (Secunderabad terminal). If you have heavy lugagge, or if you are two or more people travelling together : Take a taxi directly from the airport to Bowepally (works out cheaper than the shuttle bus option). To reach my place, follow these driving instructions. We are about 40 km from the Hyderabad airport. If you are coming by road : Our city is easily accessible by road from all major cities of India (see panel on left). Bowenpally lies at the intersection of two major national highways: NH 44 (Nizamabad Road, Medchal Road, formerly NH7) and NH 65 (Pune Road, Balanagar Road, formerly NH9). NH 44 (formerly NH7) and NH 65 (formerly NH9) are marked on this large map. The thick red straight line is the runway of the Begumpet airport (old airport of Hyderabad). Reach my place If you are coming by train : Our nearest railhead is: SECUNDERABAD, which is well connected to all major cities of India. We are about 5 km from Secunderabad railway station. Then take an autorickshaw (three wheeler) or a taxi from the city terminal (Secunderabad) to Bowepally. Reach my place
